Folds and Dialogues
Graphic designers need to be aware of the influence of folding on the components of graphic design. Folds can shape our perception of the message being conveyed and guide us sequentially through information. Conversely ill-considered folding, where there is a lack of relationship between the content and the form, can adversely detract from the impact of the design. If an item is intended to be folded, decisions about this need to be integrated from the outset. Analysis of the copy will determine the approach taken regarding the specifics of the layout. Folds can be exploited in powerful ways, they can hide then reveal words and images creating suprises around each turn of the paper.
